How to play
First, to use TurboTax, you must create an account and log in. If you have used TurboTax before, you can easily find your previous tax returns. Of course, you can also go directly to this year's tax filing. If you choose the TurboTax "Plus" service, which is worth $29.99, you will be able to do almost 50% of the work. Of course, if you are not ready to file your taxes now and just want to calculate your tax return online, or if you are not ready to spend money, you can also choose the "free edition" option. Next, enter your personal information, such as your name, date of birth and zip code. Then politely ask how you feel about your taxes this year and select your marital status. Next, enter your income information, such as W-2, 1099-INT, IRA, 401(k), pension plan withdrawals. Once you enter your employer's ID number, the system will automatically import your W-2 form. TurboTax will also ask you to fill out your residency status, social security number, occupation, whether you are in the military, etc. TurboTax will then ask you if you have ever earned income in a different state, if you or your dependents were affected by a hurricane in 2017, if you are a full-time student, etc. After completing your income report, you will be asked to report whether you are a full-time student. Next comes the part we care most about - tax deductions. Tax deductions are available for items such as health insurance premiums and health savings accounts (HAS), vehicle registrations, certain retirement accounts (Roth IRA), contract expenses (i.e. 1099), including travel expenses, etc. For these items you must provide supporting documentation such as receipts, logs and/or chits to prove that your deductions are legitimate. Check again to make sure that none of the following "special tax situations" apply to you. Then, you can proceed with your state tax return. Please recheck all information before filing
