The goal of Sonic Dash is to avoid obstacles and enemies while collecting rings. In mission mode, players must complete objectives. Players can compete for higher positions on the leaderboards. Players direct Sonic or other characters through the levels, collecting rings and avoiding obstacles and enemies. Unlike other games in the series, Sonic always moves forward automatically and can collect rings throughout the level, or can be purchased through microtransactions along with red star rings. Accumulated rings and red star rings can be used to purchase props, upgrade or unlock other playable characters. The game also features a mission system that gives players a target to aim at while playing the game.
