Description

The scene is set in a toy factory, where primary colors are muted and dingy thanks to years of abandonment.

As an ex-employee, you have received an old VHS tape, advertising the newest toy to the range produced by Playtime Co. It's Poppy Playtime, a cute doll that kids will love. The VHS tape has been tampered with, though, and you find out that the employees working in the Playtime Co. factory may not have disappeared ten years ago, and only you can find them and save them.

Poppy Playtime is a survival horror game along the same lines as Five Nights at Freddy's (FNAF), with formerly cute toys and mascots come to life in the most terrifying way. Like FNAF, Poppy Playtime is an episodic game, being released in chapters as downloadable content.

Throughout the relatively short game, you will engage in first-person action, solving puzzles to move through the abandoned toy factory while avoiding being murdered by Huggy Wuggy and the other toys that have come to life in a rather evil and menacing way.

Huggy Wuggy is the mascot of Playtime Co., a giant, blue, fuzzy humanoid character with a red smiling mouth and bulging eyes.

Watching other players online getting into Poppy Playtime might be a great form of entertainment, but when you are immersed in the game the environment is anything but funny. The bright colors that you associate with a toy factory have been dulled by accumulated grime and the dark and dingy surroundings make you feel uncomfortable before you have even started.

The music is a bit different from other survival horrors with a similar theme - instead of discordant noise, the sounds you hear are muted and in some cases quite relaxing. Until, of course, Huggy Wuggy comes up behind you with a grin that is impossibly full of teeth, ready to tear you apart to the soundtrack of an exploding string section.

The idea that this game is built around toys and features a main 'enemy' that at first glance appears cute and fluffy might make it seem that this game is made for kids - but actually, it is a horror game that might just freak out the adults a little too much. The age rating for downloads on the Play Store for iOS have 12+, so parents should be aware that the content is designed to be terrifying.

The puzzle aspect of the game is difficult enough to be challenging for most players, without being too frustrating. For the best results, players need to collect and watch the various VHS tapes strewn around the factory as that will give them more backstory, but also an understanding of how to use the GrabPack.

The GrabPack is a tool that takes the form of a wearable backpack with two hands connected by a length of wire. The GrabPack can be used to carry heavy things, complete electrical circuits, and reach for items that are far away, and it is an essential tool for solving some puzzles in the game.

The game developers, MOB Games Studios, is a small indie game developer who are releasing more chapters for Poppy Playtime as time goes on, and they are currently in talks with Studio71 to develop and produce a movie based on this popular game.

How to play

In Poppy Playtime, you are exploring the abandoned Playtime Co. factory. As you explore, you get the feeling that something is wrong. This couldn't be more obvious when the giant Huggy Wuggy standing in the middle of the hall disappears.

At the end of the game, after you have finished making the toy, you will be prompted to leave the facility safely. That is, however, until Huggy Wuggy walks through the door, ready to grab you. The toy is fast and one wrong move could result in the end of the game.

Quickly turn around and head towards the conveyor belt. There is an entrance that you can pass through. Keep going straight until you reach the intersection, straight ahead or to the right. Huggy Wuggy will come down the straight path, so take the correct path.

Sprint along the correct path until you are inevitably stopped by the unclimbable conveyor belt. Go left and you'll fall into a hole that takes you further into the factory. Continue down this path until you are blocked by a damaged machine. Make a quick right and continue straight until there is a small entrance on your left. You will have to crouch down to get through.

Now, keep running down until a door falls down, blocking your only escape path. Don't worry, the door will eventually go up, but when it does, sprint! It's a straight line until you are blocked by a pile of cardboard boxes. Turn around and look upwards and you'll see a block with colored hands. Use both of your Grabpack hands and release them quickly. This will cause the box to fall onto the T-top, breaking it and taking Huggy Wuggy with it.

In short, you must survive this horror/puzzle adventure. Try to survive the vengeful toys that await you in the abandoned toy factory. Use your GrabPack to break the circuit or grab anything from a distance. Explore the mysterious facility at ...... Don't get caught.
